Todd Ichinaga – Chef Ichinaga’s God-given passion for culinary arts blossomed in his journey from the fine dining kitchens of Los Angeles to the open roads of San Diego. Before fully pursuing his call to cuisine, though, he first had to muster the strength to leave outpatient pharmacy after nine years. After taking the big leap of faith, his path was divinely paved. While enrolled in the Hospitality/Restaurant Management program from the CA School of Culinary Arts, he volunteered at an event where he assisted the Executive Chef from the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. His zeal for creating an amazing dining experience for people did not go overlooked and though he had no formal training, Todd was offered a job at the Five Star, Five Diamond Peninsula Hotel. The energy and dynamics of the kitchen is contagious, so in wanting to provide high quality, yet accessible and affordable meals to everyone, he created Tabe BBQ, San Diego’s first gourmet restaurant on wheels specializing in Asian fusion tacos.
